Our Story

When founder Rodney Stoutenger left his job at another local garden center to start Native Edge Landscape in 2008, he knew he wanted to someday make his way back to working with customers in a retail environment.

For nearly 15 years, the team behind Native Edge Landscape has been committed to a long-term goal of opening a retail space to service DIY customers with the same quality, service, and attention to detail that our full-service landscape customers enjoy.

We’re still making lots of changes, and it has been a blast watching us grow from when we opened in June 2020 to now! Be sure to stay up to date by visiting our bloginstagram, and newsletter to follow along on our journey.

Our Building

Our unique building has a history of its own! It was once a part of the old Austin airport as an airplane hangar in the 1920s. It was then moved brick by brick to its current location on Airport & N Lamar. We know that in 1945 Rainhart Manufacturing took over the space and used it as a manufacturing and R&D facility for laboratory equipment until 2016. Garden Seventeen found it’s home here in 2020!

We have even heard rumors that this building may have held WWII planes in the 1940s!

If you know something about the history of our location or building, reach out and let us know! We always enjoy hearing about its origin.
